About the Achilles Blog
Mikhaila Markham is a former U.S. national champion and top 20 world championships qualifier in Scottish highland dancing. She began taking lessons when she was three years old and remained dedicated to the sport over the next 16 years. Her competitive career came to an end in 2013 when she ruptured her Achilles tendon during a dance competition. This blog chronicles her second and third surgical repairs following the accident, both of which involved allograft tendon transfers. While ultimately all three surgeries were unsuccessful, Mikhaila hopes this blog can be a helpful resource to other recovering dancers and athletes.
