Mifepristone at risk

Over the past two decades, medication abortion has greatly expanded access to essential reproductive care. But it has also faced relentless attacks from anti-abortion groups.

Today, a federal court case threatens access to mifepristone for people nationwide. Conservative, anti-abortion activists brought a challenge against the US FDA’s approval of mifepristone. The plaintiffs filed this case in Texas, where a notoriously anti-abortion and Trump-appointed judge might put ideology over facts.

A negative outcome would be incredibly harmful to medication abortion access across the nation, including in states where abortion remains legal.

In an ongoing effort to combat the misinformation being pushed in Texas, The Guttmacher Institute commissioned me to animate this explainer on the safety and efficacy of mifepristone.
