Redistricting in Tennessee

In January of 2022, Tennessee Republicans approved a new U.S. House map that divides Democratic-leaning Nashville into three congressional districts. The map dilutes Black, brown, and progressive voters in Tennessee’s most diverse city, pairing them with white rural voters in places like Red Boiling Springs and counties that went to Donald Trump with ≈80% of the vote.

These communities are not alike.

Courts have barred redistricting aimed at reducing political representation of racial minorities for half a century. Lawsuits in Tennessee are already in the works.
